Tout comme Roger Federer (34 ans, 3e) et Andy Murray (27 ans, 2e) avant lui, le numéro un mondial Novak Djokovic a déclaré à l'agence de presse AP qu'il ne résidera pas au village olympique lors des prochains Jeux olympiques de Rio 2016, au Brésil. Le Serbe a notamment déclaré vouloir "préserver son espace privé et son intimité afin d'être en paix pour s'entraîner sereinement". Battu par Juan Martin Del Potro pour la médaille de bronze à Londres (2012), "Nole" avait ramené le bronze de Pékin en 2008. En patron du tennis mondial, Djokovic visera donc l'or au mois d'août à Rio de Janeiro. Il a expliqué vouloir "passer le plus de temps possible avec les athlètes dans le village" au cours de la période de préparation aux Jeux, afin de s'acclimater aux conditions. Mais une fois que le tournoi olympique aura débuté, le Serbe ira donc loger ailleurs. Ce n'est probablement pas un hasard si les 3 premiers joueurs mondiaux ont préféré s'orienter vers cette option, alors que Rafael Nadal (29 ans, 5e) a déclaré quant à lui qu'il résiderait au village olympique. Pour des raisons évidentes de sécurité, les trois pères de famille que sont Djokovic, Federer et Murray semblent avoir préféré mettre leur famille à l'abri. Ce qui se comprend, par ailleurs.

The top-ranked Djokovic said Wednesday he wanted ''more time to spend with athletes in the village'' during the run-up to the games, as he acclimatized to conditions.
But once the Olympics from Aug. 5 to 21 got underway, Djokovic said he would need ''my space and privacy and peace for practice'' and would stay elsewhere.
